She is the daughter of Ilene, an antiques dealer, and Gerard Connelly, a clothing manufacturer. Connelly was raised in Brooklyn Heights, near the Brooklyn Bridge, where she attended Saint Ann ‘s, a private school focused on the arts. The same year, director Garry Marshall considered her for the role of Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman, but ultimately felt that she was too young for the part.
